No, this isn't one of those "Monster a Day" posts, but is inspired by a little sea creature who comes naturally equipped with its own disguise. Seadragons are relatives of the pipefishes. They can be found fluttering about, propelled by their leafy appendages, perfectly camouflaged in the kelp beds off western and southern Australia.
Don't tell this guy, but I doubt he'll need to shop for a Halloween costume anytime soon!

oh, he is lovely Michele :) just beautiful
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, the colors,
ReplyDeletereally remarkable. :)
One of my favourite creatures, you capture the flutter beautifully - but I'm betting he wants to be something completely impossible for Halloween, and only a costume will do.
ReplyDeleteI really love your work - this one is stunning as usual!
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so pretty! nice job!
ReplyDeleteYou are truly talented. It makes me want a seadragon of my own for a pet. Wonderful colors
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, Michele. I was just going research on these guys to amp up a mermaid piece. You are go incredibly gifted and this little sea dragon is amazingly rendered. Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.
ReplyDeleteMichele this is one of my favourite pieces I have seen you draw...what a beauty he is..this would make a fantastic card, you should print him up! L*O*V*E him. Interesting that he is related to a pipe fish and not to a seahorse. Have a great weekend,

Another beautiful image Michele, I've seen these little fellows in the flesh (not at sea, but at a sea horse museum (they were alive and swimming :-) ) and you have certainly done them justice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the positive comments! :o)

This sea dragon is great. The colors are absolutely wonderful...such a great balance of...everything!!
ReplyDeleteMichele, I have missed WAY too many of your posts...wow, I'm lovin' all of them..though this Sea Dragon is just the tops! You did an amazing job on this..you've captured that floaty buoyant feel - and I remember seeing one of these at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and just gasped. They are just so incredibly beautiful. Have you seen the seahorse exhibit? If so, it's as awesome as their Jellies exhibit. Hope all is fantastic in your world - and congrats on the fabulous Sunshine Award! Yay for 8, and Peace, baby! : )
